Channel 4 hosts a Creative Fix

Thursday 1st July 2010 | 18.00 - 20.00 | Channel 4

Over the last two years the Ideas Foundation has delivered a range of pilot projects that use the creative and media industry and its professionals to reengage young people who are excluded or outside mainstream education. These projects use the perceived glamour of the creative industries to inspire creativity, motivate and reengage young people in education.

In two pilot projects in Hackney and Wigan the Foundation has worked with the support of The Media Trust and Bafta. We have found the power of using professionals in the process crucial in stimulating aspiration and engagement. In Wigan the project was used by the BBC to promote opportunities for this type of young people in Media City.  All the programmes have provided enormously positive results.

On 1st July Channel 4 will host Creative Fix, an Ideas Foundation event that will showcase some of the work done by these students and hear from the professionals and young people who have been involved in these amazing programmes. It will consider how these successes can be taken to the next stage – a dedicated Creative & Media facility for young people outside of mainstream education.  The Foundation’s aim is to stimulate debate on a political policy level and work in partnership with Local Authorities considering using this model for one of its Short Stay Schools within their borough.

For further information about attending the event please contact ideas@ideasfoundation.org.uk or 020 7345 3229.
