Diversity: the statistics

The IPA considers diversity a major issue:

  • Advertising has been seen as a career for white male Oxbridge graduates.
  • 7.9% of the UK’s population is of minority ethnic origin, and in London 31%.
  • 4% of Institute of Practitioners in Advertising [IPA] employees are from ethnic minorities. Of these,
  • 70% are in support roles.
  • Advertising is often not on ethnic minority students’ career radar.

A Gender Diversity?

  • Nearly eight out of ten freelance designers are men and
  • 83% of the games industry workforce is male. Design Council

In contrast, in Ideas Foundation programmes:

  • Approximately 70% are young women.
  • Approximately 75% are from ethnic minorities.
